Artist in Residency
Dorothea & Franziska brought the 'Artist in Residency programme' at Borgo Belsedere to life. They thoughtfully curate the applications and are happy to offer inspiring artists the opportunity to deepen their creative journey and work on self-directed projects in a magical Tuscan setting. The programme runs from April to October each year and provides artists with up to two month residencies, including free onsite accommodation and meals as well as ample space for creative work.
With social interaction, creativity, and collaboration being at the heart of our life at Borgo Belsedere, artists staying with us are embraced as an active part of our vibrant community - participating in daily community life and creating lasting connections and memories throughout their stay.
"The place where you create should inspire you, for it becomes a part of what you create."
– Georgia O’Keeffe
Art Residency at Borgo Belsedere
A space to create
We offer each artist a dedicated workspace in an inspiring environment. Our facilities include a well-equipped tool room, workshop space, printer and projector to support a variety of creative processes.
Nourishing the Artist Within
Your stay includes accommodation and shared weekday lunches, creating a sense of community. For breakfast and dinner, you’ll enjoy the freedom to prepare your own meals, giving you balance and independence to suit your schedule.
A Space for Connection
Social interaction, creativity, and collaboration are key aspects of life at Borgo Belsedere. Residents become an integral part of a vibrant and dynamic group that includes volunteers, residents and visitors, fostering meaningful relationships and shared inspiration.
Showcase Your Work
Beyond personal projects, artists can take the opportunity to host events or exhibitions, sharing their art and ideas with the wider community. Additionally, we invite each artist to host a free workshop to share their knowledge and skills with our onsite community, enriching the collective experience.
Your Gift to Borgo Belsedere
We invite every artist participating in our artist-in residency programme to leave a piece of their creative journey behind by contributing a piece of their work at the end of their stay. Each donated piece finds a new home within the historic walls of Borgo Belsedere and becomes a part of something larger—a living, growing collection that honors the legacy of creativity shared in our space but also serves as a valuable resource. Selected pieces may be sold to create opportunities for new artists and to support the continuation of the residency program.
Borgo Belsedere is located off the beaten path, offering tranquility and seclusion. Artists can reach us by train, and we provide pickups from nearby stations such as Asciano or Sinalunga. Alternatively, renting a car is a convenient option for those who prefer more flexibility during their stay.
Accepted disciplines
We welcome applications from creatives across all disciplines, including but not limited to: visual artists, photographers, illustrators, ceramicists, furniture and product designers, jewelry designers, filmmakers, screenwriters, playwrights, novelists, journalists, musicians, performance artists, and curators.
What we should we know about
When preparing your application, try to keep it short while preserving the essence of what defines you as an artist and a potential resident. The key components we require are a detailed and engaging artist statement and a PDF portfolio showcasing your work. Additionally, we ask for an outline of your creative objectives at Borgo Belsedere and your expectations for the residency.
